In brief

Bottas hopes Miami “an outlier” for Sauber

Valtteri Bottas admits that he was disappointed with the performance of his team in last weekend’s Miami Grand Prix weekend.

Bottas finished 14th in the sprint race and 16th in the grand prix after multiple penalties for drivers ahead. He says he is anticipating a stronger performance in this weekend’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

“I hope [Miami] was an outlier,” he said. “In the last two events, we’ve been in a better place.

“The next race is at a very different track. So with some new bits on the car, then we’ll see again. But it is tight and small gains can make a big difference.”

Giltare wins disrupted FREC race

Evan Giltaire took victory in the second Formula Regional European Championship race of the weekend in Hockenheim that was heavily disrupted by Safety Cars.

The ART driver beat Prema’s James Wharton off the line to take the lead with race one winner Rafael Camara in second. But three Safety Car periods over the 30 minute race kept green flag running to just two laps out of the 15 scheduled, allowing Giltaire to take his first win in the series.

Ferrari academy driver Camara leads the championship after the opening round on 43 points, ahead of Prema team mate Wharton.

Pulling becomes first female British F4 winner

Alpine junior and current F1 Academy championship leader Abbi Pulling became the first ever female driver to win in British F1 by taking victory in the championship.

Pulling dominated the race from pole position, leading every lap to win from fellow Rodin driver Jack Sherwood. It was Pulling’s third race win in two weekends having claimed victory in both F1 Academy races in Miami.

Deagen Fairclough won Sunday’s third race to sit atop the championship standings on 88 points, 21 ahead of James Higgins. Pulling sits fourth with 44 points.

  1. F1 TV record set in United States after Miami Grand Prix

So much for the theory that Sprints ‘devalue’ the GP….

  2. Nice pass by Newey.

  3. I see that they have increased the size of some of the gravel traps at Imola.

I wish they would revert the Variante Alta back to it’s Pre-2006 configuration as it was a much more interesting and challenging corner. The quick flick over the kerbs that required precision as if you used too much kerb you would unsettle the car and lose time, But if you used too little you would also lose time.

As it’s been since it was revised in 2006 it’s now basically just an uninteresting slow chicane no different to most others.
